Overview

Quartz is seeking a motivated Actuarial Intern to join our team from January through December 2027. This paid internship provides hands-on experience supporting real actuarial projects within the health insurance industry while working alongside experienced actuarial professionals. 

As an intern, you'll gain exposure to pricing, modeling, analytics, and business processes while developing the technical and professional skills needed to launch a successful actuarial career. This year-long experience offers meaningful project work, mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development designed to help prepare you for future actuarial roles.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do 

As an Actuarial Intern, you will contribute to projects that support Quartz's business objectives while gaining valuable industry experience. Responsibilities may include: 

  • Assist with actuarial analyses, pricing initiatives, and forecasting projects 
  • Support the development and maintenance of actuarial models 
  • Perform competitive market analyses and research industry trends 
  • Analyze healthcare and insurance data to provide actionable insights 
  • Assist with provider contract reviews and comparisons against market benchmarks 
  • Identify opportunities to improve and automate existing processes and workflows 
  • Collaborate with actuarial and cross-functional business teams 
  • Gain exposure to underwriting and other non-traditional actuarial functions 
  • Utilize tools such as Microsoft Excel and SQL to support actuarial analyses and reporting 

You'll also build knowledge of: 

  • Health insurance products and operations 
  • Regulatory requirements 
  • Industry trends and competitive dynamics 
  • Professional communication and workplace best practices 
  • Time management and project prioritization 

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must: 

  • Demonstrate interest in pursuing an actuarial career 
  • Graduate between December 2027 and May 2028 
  • Have passed at least 1 actuarial exam 
  • Be available to participate in the internship for the full calendar year (January-December 2027), working 10-20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer 
  • Reside within a three-hour radius of Madison, Wisconsin during the summer months (June-August) 
  • Attend the summer intern program kickoff and retreat (June 1-4, 2027), and final intern presentation (Late July/Early August) 
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without requiring work visa sponsorship from Quartz, now or in the future

 

Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
