Overview

Quartz is seeking a Medical Coding Intern to join our team from June through December 2027. This opportunity is ideal for a student pursuing a career in Medical Coding or Health Information Technology who is interested in applying classroom knowledge in a real-world healthcare environment. 

As a Medical Coding Intern, you will work alongside experienced coding professionals, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain valuable exposure to the health insurance industry. Throughout the internship, you will develop technical coding knowledge, professional skills, and industry experience that will support your future career goals.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do 

As a Medical Coding Intern, you will gain hands-on experience while supporting key initiatives within the Coding Integrity Unit. Responsibilities may include: 

  • Assisting with coding logic denial reviews and analysis 
  • Researching CPT, ICD-10, and coding guideline updates 
  • Supporting the development, maintenance, and review of coding policies 
  • Conducting reviews of unlisted procedure codes 
  • Assisting with coding software administration and maintenance 
  • Participating in coding-related research projects 
  • Collaborating with coding professionals to support coding accuracy and regulatory compliance 
  • Analyzing coding trends and identifying opportunities for process improvement

Qualifications

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must: 

  • Demonstrated interest in Medical Coding as a possible career path  
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week from June to December 2027 
  • Seeking a student pursuing a Medical Coding or Health Information Technology Diploma or Degree program and Graduating between May 2027 and May 2028 
  • Completion of a CPT and ICD-10 Coding course by the start of internship 
  • Must live within a 3-hour radius of Madison, WI and be willing to travel to headquarters from June to August 
  • Attend the summer intern program kickoff and retreat (June 1-4, 2027), and final intern presentation (Late July/Early August) 
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without requiring work visa sponsorship from Quartz, now or in the future 

 

Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.
